Checklist —

Step 1 of 6: Day 0 (optional, Sun Oct 11): gather what you already have

Find your NB Power account number and whose name(s) are on the account.Add up your last 12 months of electricity use (kWh) from your bills or online account.Photograph the main panel label (amps), the main breaker, the meter, and the roof or yard where the panels would go.Note your well pump's horsepower, if you know it.

End of day: account number, yearly kWh, panel photos.

Step 2 of 6: Day 1 (Tue Oct 13): get a contractor on board (most important)

Call 2–3 licensed contractors who do solar. Local examples: Blue Energy Ltd. (Miramichi) and T1 Solar (info@t1solar.ca).Check each one is "Active" on the TIS contractor list. Blue Energy's licence shows an expiry of Oct 31, 2026, so ask about the renewal.Ask each: "Can you prepare the NB Power package (one-line diagram, site map, spec sheets) by Thursday?"Send them your Day 0 info.Email NB Power (NetMeteringProgram@nbpower.com) asking two things:
• Does the application have to be approved by Oct 31, or just submitted?
• If we add panels, a battery or a backup gateway later, does that affect grandfathering?

End of day: one contractor committed to a Thursday turnaround, and the NB Power question emailed.

Step 3 of 6: Day 2 (Wed Oct 14): lock in the design

With the contractor, choose the panels, the inverter make and model, and the inverter's AC size. Leave room to add panels later if you want.Confirm the inverter shows CSA C22.2 No. 107.1 (or UL 1741 with a Canadian mark).Confirm it fits your panel (the 125% rule).Decide on backup now or later. If you might want a battery or backup gateway, ask the contractor to put it on the one-line diagram now.

End of day: final equipment list with model numbers.

Step 4 of 6: Day 3 (Thu Oct 15): collect the attachments

One-line diagram (showing the whole system, including any battery, generator or transfer switch).Site map (parcel, buildings, power lines, panel location).Spec sheets for the inverter, panels, and any battery.Read the Terms & Conditions. Both account holders initial every page and sign.

End of day: all four items saved as PDFs, plus the signed T&Cs.

Step 5 of 6: Day 4 (Fri Oct 16): submit

Fill in the online application with the contractor on the phone, then submit it.Save or print the confirmation.Call NB Power (1-800-663-6272) to confirm they've received it. Ask for a reference number and who's reviewing it.Contact GMSC (506-778-5359 or CloudPermit) and ask whether roof solar needs a building permit or a waiver. Start that in parallel.

End of day: submitted application, a reference number, and the permit question asked.

Step 6 of 6: Day 5 (Mon Oct 19): follow up and protect the date

Check your email, including spam. If NB Power flags anything missing, fix it the same day with the contractor.Put a reminder in your calendar to call NB Power for status on Fri Oct 23 and again Wed Oct 28.Get written quotes from the other contractors before signing anything. Don't sign under deadline pressure.Once you're approved: get the NB Power work order number for your electrician, then the wiring permit and building permit or waiver. Inspection must pass by Oct 31, 2027.

End of day: any fixes resubmitted, follow-up dates set, quotes requested.
